When to Wash Your Gear
Getting new gear is always exciting. It’s a thrill to load up a chest rig or pack up and set out for a mission or an outdoor excursion. But inevitably, your essentials are bound to get dirty. Dust, dirt, and rain can do a number on your gear. In addition, odors may build up from sweat and outdoor exposure. That’s why it’s important to regularly wash your jackets, plate carriers, chest rigs, bags, and packs. It not only refreshes the fabric but also helps to prevent breakdown and damage over time.
Product Care Instructions
- Avoid using hot water, as it may damage the fabric and/or dull the colors.
- Stains should typically be treated with a bit of dishwashing detergent and scrubbed with a toothbrush before washing the entire piece of gear.
- Be careful when washing specialty materials. For example, DWR coatings on softshell jackets should only be treated with powder detergents, not liquid detergents.
- Always make sure your gear is completely dry before storing it or using it again.
